On Friday, March 24th, we began our class quilt. Each year, Mrs. Rice joins my grade one class to create a quilt for the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton. In the past, each child has put their handprint on fabric and then added fabrics to create their own unique square. This year, the students each chose 5 pieces of fabric to create their square and then added 5 finger print leaves to a tree. The tree now has 100 finger prints from students and teachers (and of course Mrs. <Grandma> Rice) in our classroom. Mrs. Rice took all of the pieces home and is busy putting them together to create a beautiful quilt for us to donate. This is my favourite project each year, and I cannot wait to see how this year's quilt turns out!
All students at PES participated in a Nitohtiwan gathering on Tuesday, November 22nd. Students participated in 3 different activities to talk about how they learn. At the Eagle Feather, students wrote/drew about what helps them to learn. At the Graffiti Wall, students drew a picture of something that they like about school or that helps them at school. And at the Dream Catcher, students wrote/drew about something that makes it hard for them to learn at school. Below are some pictures from the Nitohtiwan gathering.
