This week we have been working with the story "The Biggest Snowman Ever" by Steven Kroll. We have completed a reading response, a 100 chart activity, a "How to Make a Snowman" book and on Thursday we made 3D snowmen in art. Hope that you enjoyed your child's art! The kids worked very hard at being artists and making sure that they paid attention to detail!
The students at PES are invited to wear pink (or alternatively red) In support of Anti-Bullying Day on Wednesday. If you have not sent in a box of Kraft Dinner (or no name brand is fine) please do so before Friday for our 100th day activities. The boxes will then be used to do counting activities. After we are finished the boxes will be donated to the Ponoka Food Bank. Thanks. Mrs. Currie has officially started her practicum in our class. It's been a busy couple days filling her in on our routine but she is an excellent addition to our class. There was an introduction about her in our February newsletter. She will be with us until the end of April. This week we worked with the story "Love Splat". We did rhyming activities, comparing and contrasting, addition problems and a writing response based on the book. Our writing response objective was to write about a personal experience: a time when I felt loved. We added art outcome by creating a craft to go along with it. They turned out very cute and brightened up our hallway! This girl felt loved when her family was with her at her grandma's lake. This response was a hug on a birthday. This response was when dad gave orange sausages. And this last one was about going to Universal Studios in Hollywood. Come by the classroom and find your child's! I've been trying to add some class pictures from my SD card and it doesn't seem to be letting me! I will continue to fiddle but until then I did snap a couple phone pictures last week. We have been working extremely hard on subtraction. During centers We took over the hallway. Groups had to work together to solve the equation and match related facts. It is another chilly day in Ponoka! I hope that you all stayed warm yesterday!
Be sure to check your child's blog as we just completed a blog post! Due to the extreme cold Wolfcreek Schools will be closed Thursday, Feb. 6th. See you Friday! Feb. newsletters will hopefully go home tomorrow. There has been some issues with our photocopier however the newsletter is posted online here under newsletters. I have also added a Google Doc with an updated tricky word list under "Home Learning Tools" as an opportunity for you to practice tricky words at home.. Please do let me know if the document does not work. Our staff had two amazing days of PD last week where we were able to look at plans for our new building next year. We are very exciting about the changes and opportunities that the new learning communities will provide for the children. Keep checking our class and school websites for information or feel free to pop in to ask about the changes! Hot lunch forms are now available online at the PES website. As well PES is currently making changes to the report cards FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR but we are looking for parental input. There is a survey on the PES website as well. Hope you are all enjoying your child's blog. They are loving when they receive comments! |
