Student Led Portfolio Conferences are on Thursday. I have sent home both a time preference sheet as well as a confirmation of time. If you did not receive it/did not see your child's name please let me know when you would like to come in. It is always a very exciting evening where your child gets to walk you through 4 different learning activities. You are welcome to take home their portfolio to have a closer look at some of the things that we have been up to! See you then! A huge thank you to all of the children in our class. Each and every one of them made my birthday a VERY special day. I was overwhelmed with hugs and love! Make sure to check out your child's blog! On Friday we did a quick blog post! Don't forget that book orders are due Monday!
Today was sadly Mrs. Currie's last day. It has be a wonderful experience having her a part of our classroom for the last 8 weeks. She has grown immensely and has really become a fixture in our room. It will be an odd week transitioning back to our regular room. The kids helped put together a booklet with thank you's and don't forget's. The class also gave her a potted plant with all of our finger prints on it. We will her the best of luck in her endeavors and hope that one day she will come back to both visit AND sub! :)
Today was a wonderful day full of Science. We started the morning by examining what an adaptation was and examples of them in both exotic animals and local animals. To deepen our knowledge we taped our opposable this down and tried to complete everyday tasks such as eating, putting on coats and playing outside without thumbs. The class discovered that it was much harder and that our thumbs are very important to is humans. Imagine trying to text without them! :) In the afternoon the owners of San Dean's pet store in Lacombe came in with a wide assortment of pets. They brought in a ball snake, hamster, beaded dragon, gecko, tarantula, mouse (which was in actuality the snakes lunch), turtle, hermit crab, blue tongue skink and two salamanders. We took this opportunity to look at adaptations these animals had as well as talk about domestic vs wild animals. It was a blast! For DPA today we went out to the playground to learn a game called "Eagle Eyes". This game is very similar to "Red Light Green Light". The eagle has to use it's very good eyesight (an adaptation for it) to catch the 'mice' on the playground. In Social we did work on our family trees. They are coming along and are going to look fantastic! They should be finished early next week! Today we started working on our family tree. We read a story called "Me and My Family Tree". As you noted in the letter sent home we will be working just with the child, parents and grandparents for simplicity sake. We are incorporating art into our project by discussing horizontal lines and how those lines can seperated sky from ground. This morning we painted the background for our tree. The class was VERY serious about the painting today. You could hear a pin drop in our room! Here are some pictures! Sorry I had issues posting the Easter pictures over the break. Low and behold they worked today!
Easter is upon us. It was a VERY busy day in our class today. We ended the day with an Easter egg hunt. Have a wonderful break. I hope your weekend is filled with family, friends and good times. Safe travels if you are on the highways. |
