I can't believe that next week is the last week of the school year! Time flies when you're having fun! Here's some important information for the week:
Enjoy your weekend... Hopefully all of your friends and families are safe this weekend! In science we are continuing on our Building Things unit. This week we finished up our farm houses (I can create a model building). On Tuesday we worked cooperatively in a group to create a building. We had a big discussion as to what a building required in order to be considered a building. We had to plan out a blue print and our materials and then we got to build it. Our buildings had to have a flat roof, walls, floors and a door on a hinge. Today we tested to see if the buildings could hold a load by pretending a book was snow. The two strongest buildings were able to hold 4 binders stacked on top of them! Each child had to describe to me what each part was and it's function (I can identify parts of personally constructed objects and explain their purpose).
Today we created teepees. We talked about the history of teepees and what they are used for. After looking at examples each kid made their own blueprint. Many got stuck on getting the cone shape so they had to get creative! It was a fun activity!! Check out the pictures! Also thanks for everyone who have sent back the swim forms. We are still looking for 2 parent volunteers to join! Let me know if you are interested in coming. Sorry that it's been so long since I have posted! It's that time of year again where the entire class is covered in assessments and final projects!
Our class had so much fun swimming during our lessons. This year our year end activity is to head back to the pool and try out our skills! Permission forms went home on Monday, June 17th! Forms are due back as soon as possible as swimming is next week! The cost of this trip is $2. We are looking for parent volunteers for this trip so if you are wanting to join AND have your criminal record check please let me know! I will try to post our zoo field trip photos tomorrow! Don't forget that we have the zoo field trip on THURSDAY and Run, Jump, Throw on FRIDAY afternoon!
Swimming finished up last week. The swim lessons went great and the kids seemed to have learned a lot. Thank you to everyone for having swimsuits ready every day. This week our tricky words are "will", "has", "out" and "about". We have been writing how to assignments. We started with "How to do a swim skill" and yesterday completed "How to get dressed". Today we have been working on writing an imaginary story called "My Horrible Family Vacation". In Math we started a short unit on 2D and 3D shapes. In Science we are working on a unit called "Building Things". School newsletters went home yesterday. This is the last month that you will be receiving a paper copy of the newsletter. Next year you can access them from our school website or come to the office if you'd like the paper copy. Hopefully everyone has been enjoying the little bit of sunshine the last two days! Sorry that it had been awhile since I've posted. Been a busy week! This weekend PES put two teams in for the Big Brother Big Sisters Race for Kids. This was an Amazing Race meets Minute to Win It challenge and was a blast! You may have seen us running through town tossing pasta into mouths, roping cattle, flipping tires, drinking a fruit/pudding/pickle mixture or driving an articulate dump truck! Our teams dressed up as Dr. Seuss' things. Together our teams raised over $1000 for the event!
