This week our tricky words are "people", "walk", "each" and "". On Monday we wrote each word in a sentence in our journals. After we created word searches for our friends to try to complete.

The class seemed to quite enjoy swimming our first day! Thanks to everyone for having swimsuits, towels and plastic bags ready.
Don't forget that we swim Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week! This week our tricky words are "first", "then", "after" and "all".
Please don't forget that swimming lessons starts on FRIDAY! Please send your child to school with a plastic bag, their swimsuit and a towel. There will not be time to shampoo, condition or brush hair as our swim time is from 2:00-2:45pm and we will need to hurry back to the school to meet the buses. Zoo field trip forms and money are due back by next Thursday! If you need to make arrangements for the payment please let me know. Today we explored how animals and plants depend on each other for our science unit of "Needs of Plants and Animals". After discussing how animals will eat the fruits and seeds from plants we decided to make bird feeders out of pinecones, peanut butter and bird seed. Over the long weekend the kids are to be scientists and observe if the feeders actually attract birds. If they are away from home over the weekend they should examine their feeders and see if there is any evidence that birds have been by.
Please check out the new page on the blog called Learning Websites. Here you can access websites that we frequently use at school. Have a great, safe long weekend! Remember there is NO SCHOOL until Tuesday, May 21st! Welcome back to another warm week! Hopefully all of you mothers had a fantastic Mother's Day! Today was spring picture day.
This week our tricky words will be "were", "there", "eat" and "down". Today we made each word out of pipe cleaners. Tomorrow we will make them out of plastercine, Wednesday will be writing them in different ways and Thursday we will be testing our brains to see of we remember how they are written. Don't forget that tomorrow is library day! We also have a special author visit. It has been another busy week!
This week in Math we have focused on creating fact families with addition and subtraction equations. We started with one fact family and showed each equation on the houses that were sent home. We also used dice to visualize a different representation of a fact family. Today we completed our week by using unifix cubes to show our fact families. In Language this week we continue to work on writing about the beginning, middle and end of the story. Each child was given a picture for each section and they had to create the text. We have also been working hard on our tricky words if, made, have and am. Every morning we have had a competition on which group of kids can recall their tricky words the quickest. This week the 6 year olds won! On Thursday our school was lucky enough to have Spencer West come to the school. Mr. West is raising awareness and funds for "Walk for Water". He stopped on his journey of walking on his hands from Edmonton to Calgary. Ponoka Elementary School raised just over $900 for his walk. Way to go! I have included some pictures on the blog. Today we also had Atco Gas come in and do a very special presentation for the school. Be sure to ask your kids about what they learned! Enjoy the beautiful weekend! Thank you for checking out my blog. I will be using this as a tool to allow me to send home information to you. It is still under construction so please bear with me!
