100th Day is my favourite day of the entire school year. It lends itself so well to our grade 1 curriculum as students have to learn to count by 1's, 5's and 10's to 100. We did many activities throughout the day. We started with some writing about if we were 100 years old. Then we created self portraits of 100 year old us. We even put our pictures into the Age Booth app and saw a picture of what we may look like! That was VERY funny. In Math we completed our whole group lessons with the entire grade 1's. We talked about estimation and estimated where 100 boxes of Kleenex would end if lined up end to end. We measured height with our boxes as well. In gym we did 100 different exercises. At the end of the day we created 100 Day hats. Each hat should have 10 groups of stickers on 10 pieces of construction paper. They are very bright and colourful. Here are the pictures of "aged" us!
Skating was an absolute blast the last couple of days. I am so thankful that the weather turned around this week for us! This was the first year that I have taken my Grade 1's skating and it will become a yearly adventure. I was so proud of the kids, both groups that had skated before and kids that had never skated. We ended up with about 30 minutes of ice time which was perfect for the little guys. I saw so many experienced skaters coaching those who had never skated. The beginner skaters showed so much perseverance and not once did I hear complaining or "can I take my skates off?". However perhaps those words were muttered when I wasn't around! ;) It was amazing to see the growth in the skaters from the beginning of day 1 to the end of day 2.
A huge thank you to all of the parent volunteers who came and tied skates for us. You all were a GIGANTIC part of making the experience so memorable. I will be posting pictures as soon as I can get them off of my camera. We are attempting to go skating again tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday after lunch. We have our fingers crossed that the weather works in our favour. Please remember to send your child to school with all of their winter gear! Thanks!
We will be skating next Monday and Wednesday (weather permitting). Please send you child to school with their skate and helmet in a bag that is preferably NOT plastic (the plastic bags rip due to the blades). It is also VERY helpful if your child's stuff is clearly labelled with their name or initials.
If you are volunteering to help tie skates please contact myself or Miss. Longjohn. We are EXTREMELY excited to go! Weebly (my blog platform) seems to be having some difficulties. I have noticed that some of my posts are either not being posted or not being posted in their entirety. I believe my posts from my app on my phone are the ones that aren't showing. My apologies for that. I will try to check that closer until the issues are resolved.
